Transition to Single-Session in 2015

Transition to Single-Session in 2015

  1. In 2009, Ministry of Education (MOE) accepted the Primary Education Review and Implementation (PERI) Committee’s recommendations; one of which is to eventually enable all primary schools to switch to single-session. With a single session, schools will be able to harness greater flexibility in time and space in organising the school day to achieve a more holistic education.
  2. We are pleased to inform you that Gan Eng Seng Primary School will operate in the single-session mode in 2015. The school will continue to remain focused and committed to provide a compendium of student-centric, values driven and holistic learning experiences for our GESPians.
  3. We like to share with you that in 2015, GESPS plan to adopt the following:
  • All Primary 1 to 6 pupils will report to school in the morning for assembly at 7.15 am. The singing of the national anthem and pledge-taking will be at 7.30 am.
  • Three recesses of 30-minute duration each will be dedicated for P3-4, P1-2 and P5-6 at 9.45 am, 10.15 am and 10.45 am respectively.
  • School dismissal will be at 1.45 pm on Mondays and Fridays; and 1.15 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
  • Remedial / Supplementary lessons will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Pupils will have a 30-minute lunch break after dismissal before their remedial / supplementary lesson. Remedial / Supplementary lessons will end at 3.15 pm.
  • Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) for P3-6 will be held on Mondays and/or Fridays to facilitate participation of all pupils in CCAs. Similarly, pupils will have a 30-minute lunch break after dismissal before the commencement of their CCA sessions.
  1.    We would like to assure you that in the course of planning the details, we would ensure a smooth transition of all levels from Primary 1 to 6 to the single-session mode of operation.
  2.    On behalf of the staff and GESPians, we thank you for your understanding and continued support as we move forward toward this milestone in the school’s journey and history. If you need further clarifications, please write to us through our school’s generic email at gesps@moe.edu.sg.
